What goes into making of suit: The craft behind the class

A suit may look sleek and effortless when worn, but its making is anything but simple. Behind every perfectly tailored blazer or sharply cut tuxedo lies a process of precision, craftsmanship and careful selection of material. At Bennevis each suit is just more than fabric and stiches, it’s a result of thought design and skilled hands. Here’s what making really goes into making a great suit.

  1. Choosing the fabric: The foundation of fit and feel

Every suit starts with fabric, the soul of the garment.

Wool is a timeless classic for its drape, breathability and versatility. Blends of wool with polyester or viscose are used to strike the right balance between durability, comfort and cost.

At Bennevis we select fabrics that not only look premium but feel comfortable across seasons. Whether it’s a lightweight fabric for Indian summer or a rich textured weave for winter weddings, the choice of fabric defines the experience.

  1. The pattern making: Cutting precision

Once the fabric is selected, patterns are created based on standard sizes or customized measurements. A pattern is a template for every part of the suit, from the chest panels to sleeve curve.

Pattern making is where art meets math; it ensures the pieces come together to form well balanced, structured garment.  At Bennevis our designers use a mix of traditional and digital techniques to achieve millimeter precise cuts.

  1. Stitching and assembly: Built to last

With all the pieces cut, the suit starts to feel alive

  • Interlining is added to give the jacket structure and shape
  • Shoulder padding if required, is inserted carefully for symmetry
  • The suit is then stitched together using strong seams and reinforcements at stress points like the elbows and pockets.

A well-made suit doesn’t just look good, it holds its form through movement and long wear.

  1. Lapels, linings and details

This is where personality is added

The type of lapel [notch, peak or shawl], the lining fabric, button style and pocket shapes are all chosen at this stage. These elements reflect the suit’s purpose, whether it’s a business ready blazer or a groom’s statement bandhgala.

At Bennevis we pay special attention to these signature details, ensuring each piece is elegant and event appropriate.

  1. Finishing and quality check

Before the suit reaches the store, it goes through finishing, ironing, buttoning and thread clean ups. Our tailors check for stitching strength, alignment, fabric behavior and fit tolerance. Only when it passes our final check does it receive the Bennevis mark of quality.

A suit isn’t just stitched; it’s engineered for style, structure and story. At Bennevis, we honor the process behind every piece, so you don’t just wear a suit, you wear a craftsmanship.
